xckd-businessA Swiss research team surveyed the business universe and identified 55 business model patterns. Here’s the full paper. For those familiar with MECE, it’s “CE” if not “ME”…

Some favorites:

1. Digitization — because digital is usually cheaper, easier, faster (examples: Wikipedia, Facebook, Dropbox)

2. Experience Selling — increase value by including a valuable experience with the product (IKEA, Starbucks)

3. From Push-To-Pull — create a flexible value chain that can respond to and customize for a customer need’s (Dell, Zara)

4. Layer Player — find a piece of the value chain that you can do best and monopolize it (eg, TRUSTe, AWS, PayPal)

5. Razor and Blade — I just like the name :), it’s the classic “give away the razor, sell the blades” strategy (Gillette, Kindle, Nestle Nespresso)
